On Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 21.00, the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Mr. Robert Menendez, will speak at the Acropolis Museum during an event organized by the "Greece 2021" Committee in the context of the Forum "Greece in 2040".
The speech will be broadcast live on social networks and the "Greece 2021" Committee's website (greece2021.gr).
Mr. Robert Menendez is a distinguished American lawyer and politician. He has been serving as a United States Senator for New Jersey since 2006. Since 2021 he has held the position of Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, actively shaping his country's Foreign Policy.
A longtime supporter of Greek positions in and outside of the American Parliament, Mr. Menendez has undertaken essential initiatives such as the East Med Act, the adoption of a bilateral U.S. Senate Resolution on the Bicentennial of the Greek Revolution, the promotion of Greece's strategic collaboration and affiliation with the U.S., and recently, he appealed to the U.S. authorities to offer further assistance to Greece in dealing with the devastating fires.
In his speech, Senator Menendez is expected to analyze Greece's and the USA's strategic relationship within the broader region of the Eastern Mediterranean, the initiatives he has brought forward in supporting the Greek positions, and also to describe the geopolitical and geostrategic role that Greece is called to play in the novel global environment in the coming decades.
The speech is the inaugural event of the Forum "Greece in 2040". The main body of works of the Forum will take place on October 19, 2021, at Zappeion Megaron.
Within the Forum's framework, representatives of productive classes and social partners will attempt to document the opportunities and challenges their fields will encounter over the next 20 years.
At the same time, social and productive groups with a focused interest on important issues that concern or will concern our country in the future organize round table discussions that address these issues, under the coordination of members of the Committee's Assembly and the participation of field connoisseurs.
Lastly, prominent personalities of international status will outline the global context through which Greece will be invited to navigate in the coming decades.
The conclusions of the Forum will draft a "White Paper" highlighting Greece's next day.
