The anniversary projects and events carried out under the auspices or with the "Greece 2021" Committee's logo and included in the National Program of Anniversary Projects and Events continue through the first fortnight of September.

Among them: lectures, exhibitions, workshops and conferences, student competitions and educational activities, publications, documentaries, theatrical performances, showcasing routes of historical interest, as well as infrastructure projects, such as in Rethymno and Nea Smyrni.

The projects and events of September 1st to 15th in detail:

Folk festival of Agios Mamas

It is one of the longest-running festivals in Kalymnos in recent years organized by the cultural association Skaliodan, in the village of Skalia, Kalymnos, the ancient Damos = [-Municipality] Skaliodan. Every September 1, which is the beginning of the ecclesiastical year, the vespers of Agios Mamas are observed in the small Byzantine chapel of Skalia. When the vespers end, a large gathering of pilgrims follows in the village square, under the branches of the perennial Plane tree, next to the unique water source with its crystal-clear water and the beautiful stepped terraces. This year, due to the preventive health measures against the spread of coronavirus, the event will be a simple commemoration, namely during Vespers a passage about the heroes of the Revolution will be read.

It is organized on September 1 by the Cultural Association of Skalia, Kalymnos. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● Greece through the eyes of the father of Geopolitics, Friedrich Ratzel. The timeless analytical power of the 4th pillar of Systemic Geopolitical Analysis

Lecture by Alexandros Stoyannos on Greece through the eyes of the father of Geopolitics, Friedrich Ratzel. The timeless analytical power of the 4th pillar of Systemic Geopolitical Analysis. It takes place within the framework of the lectures on the history of the Greek state from 1821 until the present day and the role of Greek-German relations.

It is organized on September 2 in Cologne, Germany, by the German-Hellenic Business Association. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● Commemorative event on the beginning of the "Metapoliteftiki" (Transitional Regime) Revolution (1895-1896)

The event takes place on the occasion of the anniversary of the beginning of the "Metapoliteftiki" (Transitional Regime) Revolution (September 3, 1895) in Klima Alikampou, where the first armed assembly took place. Manousos Koundouros presented the memorandum of the Revolution to a thousand people, asking for their support. The assembly remained in Klima until September 9, on which day the participants approved the Koundouros memorandum and left.

It is organized on September 3 by the Municipality of Apokoronas in Klima, Alikampos. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● Literary Memorial service in memory of the Members of the Friendly Society

The event is a ceremony at the Church of St. George of the Members of the Friendly Society that has been taking place on Easter Monday for the last 100 years in collaboration with the Ecclesiastical Council of the Church of the Metropolis of Zakynthos. After mass, a speech will be given on the Friendly Society, the National Revolution of 1821, and the contribution of Zakynthos, followed by the laying of a wreath on the statue of Theodoros Kolokotronis. The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Zakynthos and the ecclesiastical choir accompany the event. Numerous fighters of 1821 were initiated in the chapel of St. George of the Members of the Friendly Society, among them Theodoros Kolokotronis, Dionysios Solomos, Anagnostaras, Nikitaras, Petmezaioi, Dionysios Romas, Konstantinos Dragonas, Panagiotis Stefanou, and more.

● 200 years Free Greece

It is a unique painting exhibition depicting the heroes of 1821 in oil painting on canvases measuring about 100 x 70 cm.

The exhibition aims to cultivate memories and recollections to the Greeks of Australia.

It is held between September 5th and 30th in Sydney, Australia, by the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● Greek Justice from the Revolution of 1821 to present-day, important milestones and prospects

It refers to a two-day scientific conference co-organized by the General Committee of the State of the Regular Administrative Courts, the Council of State, the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court Prosecutor's Office, the Court of Auditors, the Legal Counsel of State, and the Athens Bar Association. Each co-organizer will employ four thematic sections to present the past, the present, and the future of each sector regarding the ideals and visions of the fighters of the Revolution of 1821.

It is held on 8 and 9 September in Athens. Under the auspices and with the support of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● Books on wheels

It concerns the establishment of 15 small mobile libraries focusing on "Greece 1821-2021", to be distributed to 100 primary schools of the country. The segment of the program entitled "Greece 1821-2021", which is supported by the Committee, aims to familiarize and educate students on the Revolution of 1821 and includes, besides the acquisition of books and the creation of mobile libraries, organizing the involvement and training of teachers as well as delivering the material to the schools.

It is organized by the Non-Profit Organization "Pyrna" and runs from June 17 to November 26 (the distribution to schools will continue until the end of the 2021-22 academic year). Under the auspices and sponsorship of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● IODINE Center for the Harmonious Development of Man

This project is the production of a visual documentary, with the romantic paintings of Eugene Delacroix on the Greek Revolution as the starting point and Messolonghi as the point of reference. The documentary pursues those elements that make the Greek landscape the ultimate destination of artistic inspiration and social liberation. From Eugene Delcroix, Lord Byron, and Victor Hugo to Kostis Palamas, Thomas Gorpas, and Vasso Katraki, the film explores the artists' relationship with the magical city of Messolonghi and seeks out the universal attributes that would declare Greece the ultimate artistic destination. The documentary will be completed by November 30, 2021, and during December 2021, it will be screened with free admission to the public in Messolonghi as well as in selected cinemas in Athens, in collaboration with the Benaki Museum in the framework of the Museum's exhibition. In Messolonghi, the event will include a discussion open to all.

The project is being produced and will be screened throughout the year. Under the auspices and with the support of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● Trip to the Regional Unit of Lefkada using culture as the vehicle

Organizing a student competition and exhibition of paintings and visual artworks depicting the Revolution of 1821 through the eyes of young students of schools in Lefkada and the dynamic forces of the struggles of the Greeks that arm modern Greek society.

It is organized by the Regional Unit of Lefkada and will last from September 1 until the end of the year. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● Union of Maritime Agents of Greek Islands in the frontier region of Kastelorizo

The establishment of the Union of Maritime Agents of the Hellenic Islands (E.N.P.E.N.) aims to inform, support, and strengthen relations between its members and communicate with the appropriate organizations to address the sector's problems in local communities, and especially the small frontier islands. E.N.P.E.N. is the first workers' union founded on the frontier island of Kastelorizo, an act with a clear symbolism. The inauguration of the Association will take place on September 12 in Kastelorizo.

● The contribution of Dionysios Solomos to the Greek Revolution of 1821

Within the framework of projects and events celebrating the 200 years since the Greek Revolution, the Ionian Confederation has scheduled a lecture and exhibition at the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens on September 9.

Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● From the environment, for the environment.

Exhibition by Eva Galani-Livathinou on man and nature. The collection's content is a series of small pieces (sculptures and photographs) that symbolically depict the cycle of man's life and his activities - the effect on himself and nature - from the moment he is born to his return to darkness.

It is held from the 10th to September 14 at the hotel "Stratos Vassilikos" in Athens. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● Theatrical performance "Immortals"

On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821, director Leonidas Loizidis presents the theatrical performance "Immortals" regarding the role of women in this historical period of Greece, through the revival of the life and struggle of L.Bouboulina and M. Mavrogenous.

It is organized by AMKE Oneirous. Performances will be held on September 3, 5, and 13 in Piraeus, Haidari, and Evrotas Municipality. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● In the depths of the immortal Heroine of 1821

The event will take place in the famous Holy Patriarchal & Stavropegic Monastery of Preveli, Rethymnon. Women dressed in traditional Greek costumes (Lyceum of Greek Women of Rethymno) will enter the Monastery holding a replica of the original Flag of Arkadi woven by the nuns of the Holy Monastery of Ag. Irene of Rethymno and dyed with herbs from Psiloritis. The opening of an exhibition of engravings by the renowned Rethymnian engraver, Eleni Tzifaki - Misirli, follows. There will be a simultaneous Cretan lyre musical performance by the lyre player Vourvogiannis.

It is organized by the Association of Rethymnians of Attica "Arkadi" on September 14. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● The paths of '21 in East Roumeli

The project involves designing the historical paths, recording the most important and unique historical sites of '21 in the Municipality of Delphi, and mapping the points of interest of the path that are worth visiting. Furthermore, the project includes the promotion of selected spots of the course (places, museums) with development, restoration, renovation, and the transformation of the course into a touristic attraction, through the promotion of the natural richness and culture, with alternative touristic activities, information about hotels and restaurants in the area, etc.

The Municipality of Delphi organizes it from September 1 until the end of the year. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● EAETE event for the 200 years after the Greek Revolution

An event that highlights the invaluable contribution of the Diaspora Greeks to the awakening of the Greek national consciousness and the laying of the groundwork for the revolutionary struggle. The historian Georgios Spentzos and the Secretary-General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy, Ioannis Chrysoulakis, will speak on the subject. At the same time, a relevant video will be screening created by members of EAETE.

It is organized by the Association of Correspondents of Greek Press Abroad to be held on September 15 at the Athens Concert Hall. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● The forint, the wheat, and Garden Street

This event concerns the development and presentation of the Italian edition of the study "The forint, the wheat, and Garden Street. Greek Merchants in Livorno, 1750-1868" by the historian Despina Vlami. The book examines the history of the Greek-Orthodox merchant community of Livorno and the commercial/business activities of the Greeks who settled in the port city.

Organizer: Borgo dei Greci. The presentation takes place on September 8 in Livorno, Italy. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● The national holiday of March 25

An event on "National Day - Reception - 200 Years of Greece" on the occasion of the national holiday. The participants and speakers will be prominent politicians from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and representatives of the Government, Local Government, Chambers of Commerce, Consular Corps, the business world, and distinguished officials of the Diaspora and the German society.

The General Consulate of Greece organizes it in Dusseldorf on September 15. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

● 1821-2021: A modern look at the National Adventure

It is an event of about 2 hours, including narrations – readings – dramatization of texts about the uprising, monologues from the memoirs of the heroes of the Revolution, video wall projection, traditional and contemporary choreographies of folk songs relevant to the time and social setting.

It is organized by the Municipality of Dionysos for September 12. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

Rethymno Accessible City

Completion of the intervention plan to transform the Municipality of Rethymno into an amiable city for people with disabilities (ramps for people with mobility problems, visual and audible signs at traffic lights, swimming infrastructure for the physically disabled and blind, accessibility in main public buildings and the Museum of Contemporary Art). The aim of the Municipality is equal rights and benefits for everyone, thus improving the quality of life.

● Improvement and restoration of the Metropolitan Axis between AigeouKratitos streets

The project addresses the bioclimatic redevelopment of an area of 186,000 sq. m, within the borders of the Municipalities of Nea Smyrni & Athens, which aims at urban regeneration, functional improvement, and aesthetic upgrading of the public areas, thus maintaining a green balance and, at the same time, becoming a focal point of culture and recreation.

● The Senologic Hellenic Society participates in the celebration of 200 years after the Greek Revolution.

The Senologic Hellenic Society organizes educational workshops for the public on the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer that threatens the health and life of men and women and free breast examinations for those interested, in compliance with all the protection measures set by the Government due to covid. The SHS interventions for this fortnight will take place on the 3rd & 4th of September in Nafplion and the 10th & 11th of September in Kalavryta.

● "I was a child in '21"

An exhibition organized by the 5th Primary School of Dafni "Georgios Bouzianis" honoring the moniker of our great painter is transported from the European Cultural Centre of Delphi to the Bouzianis Museum in Dafni, where it will remain from September 13 to October 1. The exhibition will include artwork that will develop in the art workshops within the school and under the supervision and direction of the Museum of Greek Children's Art and works (paintings, engravings, sculptures, pottery, installations) by visual artists.

● 200 years of the Diaspora Hellenism and Philhellenism

This project is about creating an international network of Philhellenism cities, along with a network of schools (Italian and Greek). The events began in September 2021 at the schools where the Diaspora Greeks kindled the Revolution, and the Philhellenes set to action. The students will do research in the archives of the cities, highlight the historical personalities of the Revolution period, and organize in collaboration with the local authorities public events where they will present their results. The network has a ten-year prospect.

It is organized by the Greek-Italian Association in L'Aquila, Italy. The project will run from early September to the end of the year. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee. 

• Country, I see you – The twentieth-century of Greek cinema

The Greek Film Academy carries out a program to preserve, restore and screen films from the rich inheritance of 20th-century Greek cinema. Starting with the Athens Epidaurus Festival in September, a total of 42 films will be screened free of charge in 21 stops on all continents. Classic films of Greek cinematography will be digitized and restored within the festival's framework, creating permanent archives. The event is accompanied by a special bilingual publication (Greek-English) and an "educational suitcase," which will be offered to selected universities and libraries worldwide. Additionally, the festival has the support of the Greek Film Archive.

It is organized by the Greek Film Academy as the Main Action Sponsor of the "Greece 2021" Committee, the National Audiovisual Media Centre, and the Committee's Action Sponsors the Greek Film Center, the Athens Epidaurus Festival, and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The premiere will take place on September 11 to the 15th in Athens, 260 Pireos St., and the event will run to the end of the year.

In the first half of September, among others, the following projects continue:

● "Captain Michalis," Musical in Two Acts

Greek musical entitled "Captain Michalis," based on the homonymous work by Nikos Kazantzakis in co-production with the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Crete. The performances began on August 26 and 27 in Chania, continued in Rethymno on August 30, and Heraklion on September 3. Next performances: September 7 - Agios Nikolaos/ Elounda, Alykes / Miloi and on October 10 at the Odeon of Herod Atticus in Athens.

The Region of Crete organizes it. Under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee.

Fthia Photo Challenge - BRIDGE HUB

Online photography competition aimed at promoting and highlighting Fthiotida. To meaningfully acquaint themselves with the region, young people are invited to discover through photography hidden aspects of Fthiotida, such as local history, gastronomy, and natural beauty. The project began in July and will continue until September 15. The winners will be announced on September 25.

● 1821 - Crete in the Greek Revolution

The exhibition's objective is to highlight Crete's role in the Revolution by focusing on its connection with events in mainland Greece, the impact of developments on both sides, the movement of people and groups to and from Crete, the effect on Europe and the world. With the assistance of the Region of Crete, the exhibition visited all the cities of Crete, and from September 3 to October 31, the public will have the opportunity to visit it at Eleftherias (Freedom) Square in Heraklion.

It is organized by the Society of Cretan Historical Studies (EKIM) and the Historical Museum of Crete (IMK) in collaboration with the Institute of Informatics of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (I.P.-FORTH).
