Gold Medals Award Event by the Hellenic Open University

The Gold Medal of the Hellenic Open University was awarded to the President of the "Greece 2021" Committee, Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, and the CEO of Pfizer, Albert Bourla. The awards were presented by the President of the Administrative Committee of EAP, Professor Odysseas -Ioannis Zoras, and Emeritus Professor of the University of Athens, Giorgos Babiniotis was the keynote speaker.

In his greeting, the Deputy Prime Minister, Panagiotis Pikrammenos, spoke of the admirable and uninterrupted contribution of Mrs. Angelopoulos and added: "Thanks to Mrs. Angelopoulos, the anniversary of the 200 years since the Revolution of 1821 was a fundamental opportunity to address the future, to be inspired by our history and to ready ourselves for future developments."

On his part, the Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, praised the everlasting commitment and determination of Mrs. Angelopoulos to serve the country from different posts. "She also aspired to reinforce the NHS through specific donations, such as the ICU beds she donated to Papanikolaou Hospital," he said.

"It is a great joy for me to be honored alongside a woman with an admirable contribution to education, philanthropy, and the promotion of Greek culture worldwide," said Albert Bourla and focused mainly on the common interests he shares with Mrs. Angelopoulos, namely, encouraging the country's human capital, innovation, development, and social prosperity.

At the event, which took place at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, Mrs. Angelopoulos mentioned the importance of education, particularly the role of the Hellenic Open University. "The Hellenic Open University can play a decisive role in the country's development in the coming decades because of its versatile operation. From now on, continuous learning will not be a hobby for a few but a necessity for many," she noted.
