"The preservation of our historical memory is the safest assurance for the continuity of our identity and prospects," underlined from the podium the President of the "Greece 2021" Committee, Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, during the event "Dredes*: At the forefront of the Greek Rebirth."
The former President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, the Deputy Minister of Education, Angelos Syrigos, the MP of ND, Giannis Lambropoulos, the MP of SYRIZA, Alexis Charitsis, the MP of KINAL, Nadia Giannakopoulou, the Rector of the University of Athens, Meletios-Athanasios Dimopoulos, the Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis, spoke of the contribution of the Dredes to the Revolution of 1821 and the significance of their struggle for the modern era.
"Their history is an indicator of how to safeguard our national affairs," pointed out Mr. Pavlopoulos. "As long as we are united like a fist, we have nothing to fear," underlined Mr. Lalousis.
*Dredes: Members of forty families who, in the 14th century, came from Epirus to Triffylia in the Peloponnese to work as border defenders for the Despotate of Moreas. They were among the first to fight for Greek Independence and the Revolution of 1821.
